More Affordable Homes Needed

The Government keep telling us they will build more houses, but there seems little action, certainly not enough, they are not keeping up with demand. However there is a way to build eco-friendly housing fast! One way is to build dwellings in the gardens of suitable properties, but this requires a change in current legislation, that's all.

This would create homes for the both the elderly family members and younger members not able to get on the housing ladder. The elderly would benefit by small cosy eco-friendly homes in close proximity to family members, but retaining their independence and dignity.

This could free up houses that are too big for their needs and costly to run, which could be perfect for families. It could free up hospital beds, and make caring for the elderly more convenient for relatives, and encourage family's to care for their elderly. It could reduce the need for so much community care and reduce the cost for the families. It could also save families spending thousands of pounds a year on nursing home fees.

For the younger members, unable to afford to get on the housing ladder, it would provide once again, affordable accommodation, built to the very latest specification. The pressures of overcrowding in one dwelling would be prevented, giving independent living to all members; therefore less stress and frayed tempers. Grand parents would have convenient access to grandchildren without their homes being taken over by tows and belongings.

Other plans for the future are being developed, communities of eco-friendly quick to erect housing, built on short-term sites not immediately required for development. These houses can simply be moved and re-erected as required. This also makes the concept suitable for disaster areas such as flood and earthquake zones or for the victims of war. Many councils have shown interest in these solutions to the housing crisis, but action not talk is required. Needed, is the support of the public to bring all these projects to fruition, and spur the governing bodies into action.

It is a known fact that many families are only a few pay-days away from homelessness if the bread-winner loses their job or becomes long-term sick. The "lucky" homeless families that are rehoused in temporary accommodation, are likely to find themselves in a one room hostel accommodation, the unlucky ones become street dwellers. Can you imagine how dreadfully cold and uninviting street life would be? So when this Christmas you are enjoying your warm snug surroundings and security, spare a thought for the street dwellers. With the housing projects under way, money could be saved by councils and new homes could be built fast!
