From Cave Paintings to Mass-Printing -
The Evolution of Our Artistic Story-Telling
Since our inception
mankind has always had a fascination with story-telling. A means of
immortalising what we have learned through the expression of ancient cave
paintings, cryptic hieroglyphics and inconceivably magnificent sculptures. We
are a passionate and talented bunch, and while we most certainly have our
flaws; our ability to create is what truly sets us apart from the rest of the
natural world. (Swiftly skimming over our capacity for destruction)
Imagine as a band
of our earliest ancestral relatives gather round a fire, seeking refuge from
the elements and the predators of the night. All it took was for one curious
soul to start marking the blank stone canvas that surrounded them and then art
was born! Of course it is doubtful that the artists behind these early cave
paintings would have ever imagined that their doodles would have stood the test
of time and connected with us but they did! - Bold messages that traveled
through space and time to remind us of who we once were and how far we've come.
I like to think
that the idea of marking cave walls came from an argument... A caveman and his
wife were having a domestic over something pathetic as usual when the young
lady finally had enough and walloped her husband in the face, spraying a little
blood onto the wall. Sulking, the wounded caveman sobbed into the wall and
instinctively rubbed his finger across the bloodied wall creating a curious
looking marking. Hopefully he finished his masterpiece with the blood of a
rabbit and not his wife's though.
Fast forward to today
Fast forward to
modern-day and look at what we have achieved; from cave paintings to great
vinyl banners and billboards! Art has most certainly come a very long way, as
has our story telling. Look at the way we advertise, channeling our thoughts
and ideas into great artistic pieces that connect with people on a real, human
level - Great colours and designs that tap into our emotions evoking all manner
of feelings and inspiration.
Through the
dedication and unrelenting innovation of great minds around the world we have
developed a vast range of technology that allows us to create images and
artistry on a gargantuan scale! There are great printing companies all over the
world: All of which are constantly striving to refine their ability to
communicate with one another through imagery and colour.
There are now so
many ways in which people can advertise products and services to quickly share
a message and get out there and in front of their respective audiences. It is
through bold innovations that we as a race are able to bring people closer
together, sharing our brands and ideas and making the world a much brighter
place.
There are so many
great causes that are given a voice due to receiving support from capable
marketeers and promotional companies; charities that are able to spread the
good word and promote their ideas to those around them. Through art and imagery
we are able to capture the hearts and minds of those around us and call for aid
for those in need. All of this stemming from that one brave and curious soul,
marking their dreams onto stone for us to rediscover.
What a fascinating
journey it has been! And there are many more chapters to be written. We are in
our infancy, slowly mapping out the world around us, creating and innovating
together. Be a part of that story and reach out to those around you
